Part One: The International Lyrics Server

http://www.lyrics.ch/search.html

  1. You can search for a specific artist. Type "U2" into the artist field. How many albums are listed?
  2. You can search for a specific song. Type "American Pie" into the song field. How many artists have recorded a song with this title?
  3. Now, take about 15 minutes to search for some of your favorite songs. If you find the lyrics, you can read them or print them.

Part Two: The QuickTime Songs Jukebox

  1. Visit the karakoe QuickTime Songs Jukebox. There are a lot of  songs here.  You listen to a MIDI file and see the words highlighted on your screen.  Of course, you should sing along!  (Warning: you will need QuickTime to use this site; if your computer doesn’t have QuickTime, you can download it for free.)

  1. http://www.eslpartyland.com/dtsmusic.htm--Visit the Discussion Center at Karin's ESL PartyLand. Read what other ESL students are saying about music. Jump into the discussion by posting your own response.

Part Four: Music Tests and Quizzes

  2. At this cool web site, you can listen to songs and take fill-in quizzes on different songs.  The computer checks  your answers.  You will need RealPlayer to use this site. Take at least one quiz here.

  3. http://members.tripod.com/~towerofenglish/music.htm--The Tower of English’s Music Room centers on the Beatles. Links to listen to Beatles songs, take quizzes, look at pictures, and read about the band.

  2. http://eleaston.home.mindspring.com/html/songs.html#AmericanMusic--EL Easton’s Music Links: a stellar links page for all things musical. One of the sections links you to loads of music quizzes.
  3. http://genxtvland.simplenet.com/SchoolHouseRock/--Visit the SchoolHouse Rock web site. (Most Americans between the ages of 20 and 35 grew up with SchoolHouse Rock.  At this site, you can share in the American experience; read the lyrics, listen to the songs and watch the videos.)
