First, go to the above address, scroll down the page, and
choose a topic.
Once you have chosen a topic, you and your partner should
discuss your answers to the "Topic Preview" questions. (These questions appear
in the right-hand frame. Remember, you can make the width of this frame larger by using
the arrow to widen the left border.)
After you have discussed all the questions in the
"Topic Preview" section, you should do the exercise under "Vocabulary
Preview." (This section is in the left-hand frame. Once again, remember to widen the
frame.) Here, you get to read and listen to new vocabulary words. You and your partner
should discuss the sentences and decide on the meaning of each new word.
Now, take a short quiz to see how well you understand the
new vocabulary.
You’re almost ready to listen! Scroll down to the
bottom of the "Topic Preview" frame. Click on "click here to
continue." This brings you to the listening page. Before you listen, however, read
through the comprehension questions. Once you understand these questions, go ahead and
listen once. Then see how many questions you can answer. Before you check your answers,
listen a second time. Once again, try to answer the questions. Then, check your answers;
if you do poorly, you may even want to listen a third time.
Depending on which topic you chose, there may be follow-up
discussion questions and activities or links to web sites with more information on the
lecture’s topic. Take some time to follow up!
