Hello everybody. I want to wish everyone in the ESL Partyland community a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
If you are not from the US and you are unfamiliar with Thanksgiving, you can find a good description on Wikipedia: Thanksgiving (United States) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's a good excuse to eat, drink and be merry. Unfortunately I will be flying on thanksgiving day so my food will probably not be that good ha ha. But then again, there's always drinking
Happy Turkey Day!
Last night we discussed the history of Thanksgiving in our class. We also had quite a discussion about turkey. I found out that in Chinese, the word for turkey means fire chicken. And in Japanese the word means seven faced bird. Interesting!
Tomorrow we will have our Thanksgiving dinner with some of my students. I am sure that it will be a great day.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
What are great idea to invite students over to see not only the English interaction but also to experience the tradition. How did it go? How many students did you have?
We had 4 folks from China this year. It went very nicely. We have been inviting international folks for Easter and Thanksgiving for quite a few years. Many of my students are visiting scholars that are only in the US for 6 months or a year. I think that it is really good to give them a chance to experience some of our traditions while they are here.
How was your Thanksgiving?
